The Rig Manager is responsible for the leadership of their assigned rig and as such leads and coordinates the work of the crews on the rig and the work of any additional rig workers or technicians who may be assigned to that rig. Position works 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, 12 hour days. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be available for work as business needs arise.
Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Directly responsible for the culture and engagement at the rig, ensuring all proper personnel are hired and on-boarded appropriately and all proper training and coaching is taking place. Responsible for the development of crew members.
Directs work in regards to dismantling, moving or skidding of rigs and rigging up at a new location.
Plans and schedules the delivery of materials needed for drilling, such as special tools or rig components and expendable materials including, mud, other chemicals, fuel, water, bits and other supplies used in drilling.
Leads and promotes Safety in all aspects of the work being performed. Supports the HSE management system and ensures all company policies and procedures are followed at all times during their work period. This responsibility extends to and includes all periods whether on the rig or in the camp quarters.
Accountable to report any and all breaches of company policies to the appropriate personnel/ management team members regardless of whether they occurred on the rig or in the camp quarters or when travelling to or from the work site whether travelling in company or private modes of transport.
Directs and coordinates all of the drilling activities, in liaison with the Operator and other service companies as necessary.
Leads and supports drillers in solving operational problems and calls in specialists or Operator’s personnel when complex problems arise, i.e. Severe kicks or blowouts, downhole conditions requiring plan changes etc.
Determines and coordinates optimum drilling conditions based on experience, utilization of data from nearby or similar wells, and/or optimized drilling programs.
Maintains and disseminates information on rig equipment and drill stem performance or failures. Such information can be utilized to improve equipment, its utility, care and maintenance practices, and improve the economics of drilling.
Must have at least 5-8 years of personnel/leadership experience.
Must have thorough knowledge of rig emergency signals and procedures.
Must have working knowledge of basic knots, splices, wire line sling handling and general rigging practices.
Demonstrating excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to work without supervision.
Must have good oral/written communication skills in order to effectively interact with Company representatives, vendors, and Rig personnel.
Must have good management and organizational skills.
Must understand and interpret data presented in statistical or numerical form and be able to use if effectively in leading all operational aspects of the rig assigned.
Must be detail oriented and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
Must be able to climb up and down ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be proficient with the computer and able to learn internal Ensign ERP and other systems used including Safety Management system and Employee Competency Program.
Must be able to have a good driving record/ active driver’s license.
